MANILA, Philippines — Around P5.3 million worth of suspected cocaine was found floating in the waters off Barangay (village) Quezon in Libjo, Dinagat Islands, police said on Monday.
According to Caraga police, a fisherman identified as Felix Miasco found a sealed bag containing a brick of suspected cocaine at around 7:10 p.m. on Sunday and turned it over to the village captain.
The local official then called the personnel of the Libjo Municipal Police Station who took custody of the suspected illegal drugs.
Police said the item was transferred to two plastic bags when turned it over to authorities since the original packaging was damaged.
Authorities will examine the recovered items to confirm if it is indeed cocaine.
Police have been recovering bricks of cocaine either washed ashore or found floating in the waters of the country’s eastern seaboard since February this year.
