SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) confiscated a total of P60 million worth of smuggled sugar and firecrackers here on Friday.

BOC officials said the smuggled sugar and firecrackers arrived from Hong Kong on March 31 and April 7 and were seized after these were found in 34 containers misdeclared as floor mats and plastic floor coverings.

The shipments were consigned to JRFP International Trading.

Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero said they issued a warrant of seizure and detention on April 12.

He immediately ordered the revocation of the customs accreditation of both the importer and the customs broker, who are facing charges of violation of section 1401 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
