Village councilor shot dead in Lucena
LUCENA CITY – A barangay kagawad (village councilor) in Lucena City was shot and killed on Thursday night, police said Friday.
A police report said the still unidentified gunman approached Ariel Sotomayor, 46, incumbent kagawad of Barangay Ibabang Dupay, and shot him several times in different parts of the body using a gun of unknown caliber along a national road in Purok (sub-village) Atis in nearby Barangay Mayao Crossing at about 8:15 p.m.
A bystander, Bong Rafhael Alarcon, 15, was injured in the left arm after being hit by a stray bullet.
Both victims were rushed to Saint Anne Hospital. Sotomayor died on the way to the hospital, police said.
Investigators are still establishing the motive for the shooting. /muf
