Grenade lobbed at electric firm in Cabanatuan City

CABANATUAN CITY — Motorcycle-riding suspects hurled a hand grenade that exploded inside the compound of an electric firm owned by the family of Mayor Julius Cesar Vergara on Wednesday.

No one was injured in the explosion inside the compound of Cabanatuan Electric Corp. (Celcor) in Barangay Bitas here at 12:06 a.m., said Police Lt. Col. Ponciano Zafra, the city police chief.

Celcor distributes electricity to this city.

Vergara, who is running for vice mayor under the ticket of his daughter Myca, has yet to comment.

A source from Celcor said some people in the area scampered for safety after seeing the grenade that was thrown near the guard post. The suspects managed to flee after the attack.
