Village councilman shot dead in Tarlac

TARLAC, Philippines — A village councilman in Capas town was shot dead by two gunmen on Tuesday, police said.

Investigators said Edward Capil, 33, a businessman and village councilman in Barangay Cutcut, and his driver were about to board their car when the attack happened.

Capil fired back at the suspects who immediately fled on their motorcycle, police said.

The police later caught the alleged gunmen in a follow-up operation.

The suspects were identified as Eduardo Abeleda, 48, a resident of Don Bosco, Tondo Manila; and Rowell Libao, 42, of Barangay Cacutud in Arayat, Pampanga.

Capil was taken to a hospital, but he died while undergoing treatment.

Police recovered from the suspects six sachets of suspected ‘shabu’ (crystal meth), two Armscor .45-caliber pistols, and a silencer. /ee
