MANILA, Philippines — Marikina Police Chief Col. Redrico Maranan questioned the proposal of Marikina City Mayor Marcelino Teodoro to split the cost of gasoline for police vehicles between the local government unit (LGU) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

“Unang una, yung [Philippine National Police] may sariling allocation kami para sa aming PNP mobile cars and motorcycle. ‘Yung LGU meron din sila may sariling allocation sa mobile car and motorcycle,” Maranan told in a phone interview on Wednesday.

Maranan was reacting to Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro’s proposal to assess the amount needed by the local police for gasoline and to even split the amount between the PNP and the LGU.

Maranan said he will discuss the proposal with Teodoro if the mayor is willing to talk to him.

“Oo naman siya ang mayor ko [at] ako ang hepe niya,” he said. “Kung ipatawag niya [yung meeting], I can cooperate.”

(He is the mayor, and I am the police chief. If he calls for a meeting, I can cooperate.)

Maranan, however, declined to comment on PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde’s criticism against the Marikina Mayor.

Albayalde said Tuesday that a local chief executive officer in the eastern part of National Capital Region was “childish” in allegedly withdrawing support to local police officers.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Major General Guillermo Eleazar later revealed that the PNP chief was referring to Teodoro. /ee
