Earthquake in Luzon predicted in Bible reflection?

MANILA, Philippines — Coincidence or not?

The post of Facebook user Krstna Snchez Dizon featuring the Monday reflection of the Catholic daily Bible guide Didache made rounds online.

“I was in BDO while the earthquake happened, and one teller showed this after,” Dizon wrote as caption.

The reflection dated April 22 was titled “The Big One” and it cited Acts 2:25: “I saw the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will now be shaken.”

“With the scare about the big earthquake that may come and hit Metro Manila, I am wondering why skyscrapers continue to rise,” the reflection read.

“In the middle of all the things that worry us — like problems, sickness, challenges and the likes — we sometimes forget that God is always with us. He is like a strong tower that cannot be shaken,” it added.

The post has garnered over 208,000 shares, 97,000 likes and 795 comments, as of posting.

It was posted after a magnitude 6.1 earthquake jolted parts of Luzon resulting to the death of 11 in Pampanga.

Amid this, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reiterated its reminder to the public that there is still no technology available that can predict earthquakes.

Phivolcs shared a previous post dismissing rumors that an earthquake involving the West Valley Fault, possibly affecting Metro Manila and its neighboring provinces will happen.

“Nais naming ipabatid sa publiko na hindi nanggaling sa DOST [Department of Science and Technology]-PHIVOLCS ang mensahe na ito at walang sapat na basehan para maglabas ng warning ang aming tanggapan tungkol sa isang nalalapit na malakas na lindol,” Phivolcs said.

“Sa kasalukuyan, wala pang teknolohiya sa buong mundo na maaring malaman kung kailan maaaring maganap ang isang malakas na lindol,” it added.  /muf
