MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) urged residents in Metro Manila to prepare for possible aftershocks after a magnitude 6.1 earthquake hit parts of Luzon on Monday afternoon.
“In the light of the earthquake that hit Metro Manila today at about 5:11 in the afternoon, I urge all Metro Manila residents to take all necessary precautions in the event of aftershocks,” Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, NCRPO chief, said in a statement.

Eleazar said the NCRPO was waiting for reports from field officers regarding casualties and damage to property so they could assess the situation in Metro Manila after the earthquake.
He also said the public could expect train services to resume after a while.
“We are deploying available NCRPO buses and trucks to help transport our commuters,” he said.
Meanwhile, Eleazar said the NCRPO would remain on full alert and urged the public to report any suspicious behavior and unlawful acts to the police.
