PNP deploys vehicles to aid stranded Metro Manila commuters

MANILA, Philippines — Gen. Oscar Albayalde, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), ordered the deployment of police vehicles in some areas in Metro Manila to aid stranded commuters after the closure of train stations, following a magnitude 6.1 earthquake that hit parts of Luzon on Monday.

According to Col. Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson, Albayalde ordered Maj. Gen. Edwin Roque, director for logistics, to immediately deploy all available PNP transport vehicles consisting of four coasters, a bus, and four trucks.

Banac said the vehicles would help transport commuters from Cubao in Quezon City to Monumento in Caloocan and from Cubao to Taft Avenue in Pasay.

Meanwhile, the National Capital Region Police Office also deployed its own vehicles, including trucks and mini buses in different parts of Metro Manila to aid stranded commuters. /atm
