SAN PEDRO CITY — Five people drowned in separate incidents as people flocked to beaches and swimming pools during the Lenten break.
Reports collated from the Calabarzon police showed that most incidents happened in Batangas province.
These were recorded from April 18, Maundy Thursday, to Black Saturday.
One of the victims was Neil John Perey, 12, who drowned in a pool at Playa Calatagan Resort in Calatagan, Batangas on April 18.
Perey was taken by Philippine Red Cross volunteers to the Calatagan Medical Hospital but died on the way.
On the same day in Calaca, Batangas, Eugene de Gala was reportedly drunk when he drowned while on the beach in Barangay (village) Salong.
In Nasugbu, Batangas, Hermiginaldo Tabaño, 59, was found unconscious under three-foot-deep water in Barangay Calayo on April 19.
He died while being treated at the Ospital ng Nasugbu. Tabaño’s wife told police the victim suffered from hypertension.
Six-year-old Judaea Norlysonn Saladino drowned in the swimming pool at the Club Serene Resort in Barangay Dolores, Taytay, Rizal. The police report said the child found his way into the pool unaccompanied by adults.
In Tanza, Cavite, rescuers recovered the body of Jeffrey de la Rosa, 21, hours after the victim had reportedly drowned off Excellence Beach Resort in Barangay Sahud.
