MANILA, Philippines — The reported killing of Cebu drug lord Franz Sabalones early morning of Maundy Thursday in Quezon City has yet to be confirmed, police said.
Brig. Gen. Joselito Esquivel Jr., director of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), said the identity of the man gunned down along Timog Avenue could not yet be ascertained.
Col. Manuel Abrugena, chief of the Cebu Provincial Police Office, said that Sabalones was killed by unidentified assailants in the city’s entertainment district.
Lt. Col. Louise Tremor, station commander of Kamuning Police Station, told INQUIRER.net that they were still investigating the identity of the fatally shot man.
In an initial report, police identified the man as a certain Jerome Cabilao based on the recovered identification cards.
Tremor said the body of the victim was brought to the QCPD’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit for further investigation.
Police have been hunting down Sabalones, whose illegal activities are traced in San Fernando town of southeastern Cebu, since he publicly admitted in 2016 that he has been a “big-time” supplier of illegal drugs. With a report from Cebu Daily News.
