BREAK: 13-hour red alert in Luzon grid

MANILA, Philippines — National Grid Corp. of the Philippines placed the Luzon grid under red alert for the third straight day on Friday.

This time the likelihood that demand will outstrip available generating capacity is estimated to be within a 13-hour period, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.  — the worst so far in the past two weeks.

On Thursday, the 150-megawatt Unit 2 of SMC Consolidated Power Corp. in Limay, Bataan went on forced outage due to a suspected boiler leak, adding pressure to an already tight supply situation in Luzon.  /muf
