MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday said heightened alert status will remain in place all over the country despite the absence of terror threats.

PNP Spokesman Col. Bernard Banac said continued heightened alert status was declared to ensure public safety throughout the election period.

“Sa ngayon, walang na-momonitor na banta na nanggagaling sa ating terror groups subalit patuloy ang seguridad na pinapatupad sa buong bansa,” Banac said.

According to Banac, the heightened alert status will be in place until June 12, 2019.

“Patuloy ang ating alert status na heightened alert status para sa halalan,” he said.

Aside from this measure, PNP has deployed 77,536 police officers nationwide to enhance public security during the summer vacation.
