An Uber driver in California tried to burglarize the residence of his passengers after dropping them off at the airport.
The San Mateo Police Department arrested the driver, Jackie Gordon Wilson, in Sacramento last April 5, as per the department’s news release on April 8.
Wilson dropped off his passengers at the airport last Thursday, April 4, and an hour later drove to his passengers’ very home on Rand Street in an attempt to burglarize it.
His attempt was thwarted, however, when an alarm sounded, prompting him instead to burglarize another home in Nash Drive, which was in the same neighborhood.
The Nash Drive homeowner had Ring video surveillance of Wilson breaking into their home and identified him, thanks to users of the surveillance community sharing platform.
“The homeowner had Ring video surveillance of the suspect breaking into their home and shared it on Ring’s community sharing platform,” the police department said.
“The homeowner quickly learned from platform users that the suspect was an Uber driver and just dropped off residents at the airport from the 600 block of Rand Street.”
San Mateo Police arrested Wilson in a home in Rancho Cordova the following day. Authorities found him wearing the same clothing he had on during the burglary; they were also able to recover some of the items Wilson stole from the Nash Drive residence.
“He was transported and booked at San Mateo County Jail for the burglary on Nash Drive and the attempted burglary on Rand Street,” the police department said. “The investigation continues as detectives are looking into Wilson’s activities to identify any other crimes and recover additional stolen property.” Cody Cepeda /ra
