Innocent boy rushes dead chick to hospital

Derek C. Lalchhanhima from Mizoram, India touched the hearts of netizens when he rushed a dead chick he had accidentally ran over with his bicycle to the hospital.

MANILA, Philippines — A six-year-old boy who rushed a dead chick to the hospital after he accidentally ran over it with a bike was honored by his school for the courageous act.

In a Facebook post, a certain Sanga Says said Derek Lalchhanhima from Sairang, Mizoram in India was given a draped shawl to recognize his noble deed.

“Derek C Lalchhanhima (age 6) is being honoured by his school and he is draped in a shawl which is a traditional way of honouring someone among Mizos,” read the caption on Thursday. The Mizos are the native inhabitants of the northeastern Mizoram state.

Says described that the shawl was given to those who have shown “extraordinary courage.”

“The shawl that is draped on him looks like a modified version of the ‘Tawlhloh Puan,’ an honour given to those who have exemplified extraordinary courage,” it said.

Netizens were touched by the photo of Derek holding a dead chick and a 10-rupee bill (about P7) begging hospital staff to revive the bird.

Derek initially asked his parents to take the dead chick to the hospital but his father told him to go by himself. So the boy left their home to bring the dead animal to the nearest hospital, where a nurse took a photo–that would soon become viral–of the distraught kid.  /atm
