Man admits killing wife; buries her under stilt house

MANILA, Philippines — The widow of a police officer was shot dead in her own restaurant by an unidentified gunman in Manila on Wednesday night.

Police identified the victim as Maricel Padpad, 45, the widow of the late Police Chief Master Sergeant Dennis Padpad.

In an initial investigation, Maricel was sitting near the entrance of Mad Wings Bar and Restaurant along Tejeron Street corner Syquia Street Sta. Ana, Manila, when a gunman shot her several times.

An accomplice on a motorcycle then arrived and helped the shooter escape.

The victim was rushed to the Sta. Ana hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Recovered from the scene were six spent shells and two slugs from a .45-caliber pistol.
