COTABATO CITY – Just like in previous political exercises, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) will not campaign for or against any candidate in the coming May 2019 national and local elections.

“The MILF as an organization will remain neutral,” Chief Minister Al Haj Murad Ebrahim of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao said in a radio interview.

Ebrahim stressed that while the MILF is already a partner of the government, the organizational policy of not endorsing any national or local candidate remained.

The MILF is also not campaigning for or against any political party but will not prevent its members from joining the elections.

Ebrahim, also the chair of the MILF central committee, said the MILF would soon issue guidelines on how to choose leaders and the qualifications those leaders must possess.

The chief minister said the MILF would allow voters to choose his or her candidates for national and local elections.

Ebrahim said the MILF could not dictate upon its members and followers whom to vote but may give guidelines on how to choose right leaders./lzb
