PNP chief gifts Duterte with support in fight vs drugs, crime

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Oscar Albayalde reiterated the support of the police force to President Rodrigo Duterte’s programs against illegal drugs, criminality, and corruption, as the Chief Executive celebrates his 74th birthday on Thursday (March 28).

In a video uploaded on Albayalde’s official Facebook page and shared with reporters, the PNP chief also wished good health and long life for the President.

“To our President Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Sir, on behalf of the 190,000-strong PNP personnel, we would like to greet you a happy birthday,” he said in the video filmed at the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office.

Police Brigadier General Romulo Sapitula, director of the Police Regional Office 1 (Ilocos Region), and officials of the Ilocos Norte Police, were with Albayalde in the video.

“We wish you good health and long life and we would like to assure you that the PNP is behind you in all your advocacy and thrust against illegal drugs, criminality and corruption. With your great leadership we can make our country great and strong,” the PNP chief said.

Duterte earlier said that he did not want any celebration on his birthday and said he just wanted to “stay at home and sleep.” /cbb
