UAE food security minister embarks on 2-day visit to Philippines


MANILA, Philippines — The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Minister of State for Food Security Mariam Al Mehairi will embark on a two-day visit in the Philippines to explore cooperation in agriculture and food sciences, particularly in rice.

Mehairi is accompanied by Ambassador to the UAE Hjayceelyn Quintana during her visit from March 25 to 26.

In a statement on Monday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Mehairi is set to visit the Philippines Rice Research Institute in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, and the International Research Rice Institute in Los Baños, Laguna.

She will also meet with senior officials of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and other stakeholders in agribusiness, DFA added.

Mehairi has served as Assistant Undersecretary for Water Resources and Nature Conservation Affairs at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, before she was appointed minister in 2017. /kga
