Ex-VP Binay offers P1-M bounty for mastermind behind ambush on Junjun’s aide
MANILA, Philippines – Former Vice President Jejomar C. Binay on Friday offered a P1-million reward to anyone who could provide information that will lead to the arrest of the individuals responsible for the shooting Thursday night of the executive assistant of his son, former mayor Jejomar Erwin ‘JunJun’ Binay Jr.
In a statement, Binay said he was “deeply saddened” by the “senseless shooting” of Monalisa Bernardo, who he described as a “close and true friend” of his family.
“I am hopeful that truth and justice will prevail and those behind this heinous act will be unmasked,” Binay said in a statement.
“I am ready to offer a reward of P1 million for information that will lead to the arrest of those behind this crime,” he added.
Bernardo is the executive assistant of the younger Binay.
She was shot by motorcycle-riding gunmen in front of her residence in Barangay Olympia, Makati City Thursday night.

Binay condemned the attack on Bernardo, saying that there is “no room for violence in Makati.”
Binay also appealed to residents of Makati to “remain calm” and “refrain from aggravating the situation by spreading conjectures and speculations.”
“There could be certain elements who are out to exploit this incident for their personal agenda and incite violence,” he said.
The younger Binay, Junjun, earlier said that the attack on his aide could be politically-motivated.
He is seeking to return to the Makati Mayor’s office this May 13 midterm elections. / gsg
