Former seaman killed in Mabolo
A FORMER seaman was shot dead by an unidentified assailant in barangay Mabolo, Cebu City past midnight yesterday.
Jose Bersabal, 58, died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds in the body.
Police said Bersabal went out of his house at 12:30 a.m. and bought some cigarettes from a nearby store.
Bersabal was walking home when an unidentified assailant waylaid him.
According to some residents, three gunshots were heard, said police.
Residents later found the man slumped on the ground with gunshot wounds in the chest and head.
SPO4 Alex Dacua, homicide investigator of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said the shooting happened in a well-lit area but no one came forward to help shed light on the incident.
Police said the man worked as a seaman 20 years ago.
