2 dead, 1 hurt in Laguna after delivery truck hits pedestrians

SAN PEDRO CITY — A delivery truck hit a group of pedestrians, leaving two people dead and one injured, in this city on Sunday.

City police chief Supt. Giovannie Martinez, in a text message, identified one of the fatalities as Jonathan Muyco, a resident of the adjacent Biñan City. The police have not yet confirmed the identitiy of Muyco’s female companion, who also died.

Another pedestrian, Jiero Esteban, 23, from Muntinlupa City, was injured.

Martinez said the victims were crossing the national highway in Barangay (village) Nueva when they were hit by the truck around 3:30 a.m.

He said the driver, Jerick Manaog, tried to flee but was stopped by policemen who happened to be patrolling about a hundred meters away from the accident site.

Martinez said investigation continued but Manaog would be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide. /je
