2 Chinese nationals arrested for illegal detention

MANILA, Philippines – Two Chinese nationals were arrested for alleged illegal detention of a Singaporean in Parañaque City, the South Police District (SPD) reported.

Police identified the suspects as Cong Zou, 26 and Chunwen Ouyang, 30.

Initial investigation showed that the suspects approached the 29 year-old victim who was having difficulty withdrawing cash from an ATM at  a gaming facility in Paranaque City  Wednesday afternoon.

The Chinese nationals offered to lend Junbin money through chips worth P500,000 with certain terms and conditions.

The suspects took the victim’s ATM card in exchange for the loaned chips, but after several hours, suspects said the card was allegedly captured by the money dispensing machine.

They brought the Singaporean to a condominium unit and ordered him to contact his family and wire money to an undisclosed bank account in China.

The victim, however, used his mobile phone to contact his friends in the country who relayed his situation to the police, resulting in the arrest of Zou and Ouyang.  / gsg
