WATCH: kapok tree fibers fall like snow in UPLB
MANILA, Philippines — An old kapok tree with falling fibers has created a scene at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB).
In a Facebook video shared by Jerard Eusebio, Assistant Professor at UPLB, the tree’s fibers were seen falling like snow.
“Pulled over to capture this. Oh, UPLB! I’m happy I call you home (literally domiciled in Los Baños),” Eusebio wrote in his Facebook post on Tuesday.

Eusebio said the tree is located near Palma Bridge across the parking lot of the university’s Physical Sciences building.
The tree has been identified as one of the university’s “centennial trees” and could be older than UPLB, Eusebio noted.
“It was identified as one of the centennial trees. So it’s pretty safe to assume that it’s older than UPLB itself. It has seen more than any of us,” he told INQUIRER.net in a Facebook message.
“Of course, this ‘snowing’ is really just the tree dispersing its seeds around, which is proof of how it has been successful in reproducing and staying around,” he said.
He added that the display of nature showed “that we share this planet with magnificent creatures, that we’re all connected in some way, and that when we take care of nature, it takes care of us.”
As of posting, the video received 7,000 likes, 500 comments, and 8,004 shares. /ee
