Queen City A, USJ-R blank foes in Aboitiz Football Cup
Cebu Queen City United (CQCU) A and University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Alumni underscored their desire for the title by posting impressive wins in yesterday’s 14th Aboitiz Football Cup at the Aboitiz Sports Field at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.
CQCU fortified its hold of the top spot in bracket A with a 13-0 routing of Sumaba FC.
CQCU, which has yet to drop a match, tops bracket A with nine points off three wins, while Sumaba dropped to the cellar with no victory after three matches.
USJ-R Alumni, on the other hand, barged into the win column with a spectacular 14-0 demolition of Uptown United FC.
With its first win, USJ-R shares third spot with Don Bosco United Football Club (DBUFC) FC A with four points apiece after incurring one win and one draw each.
Other matches in the Men’s Open saw Southwestern University (SWU) blanking San Roque Royal United (SRRU) FC, 5-0, and Panalpina World Transport getting a taste of its first defeat after falling short against Subangdaku Football Club (SFC), 2-1.
Article continues after this advertisementSWU took the no. 2 spot in bracket B with six points after dropping just one of its three matches, while SRRU joins Azco and Uptown United at the bottom rung as they have yet to post their first win in the tournament.
With its second win, SFC trails CQCU A at second spot with six points while Panalpina drops to third place also with six points and one loss.
