Quezon City declares 11 villages ‘drug-cleared’

MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City Anti-Illegal Drugs Abuse and Advisory Council (QCADAAC) has declared 11 villages in the city cleared of illegal drugs.

Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel Jr., director of the Quezon City Police District, identified on Monday the following newly drug-cleared villages:

In a report forwarded by the QCPD, Esquivel said that this brought the total number of villages free from drugs to 30.

Esquivel said the villages had passed the parameters set by the Dangerous Drugs Board and the QCADAAC.

He said that the council would evaluate and assess the villages every three months to know if there is a resurgence of drug personalities. He said house visitations would also be done to encourage drug personalities to surrender to authorities.

“If they do not, appropriate measures will be taken to maintain the status of a drug-cleared barangay,” the QCPD said.

According to the QCPD, if further assessment reveals the reappearance of drug personalities and the resumption of the drug trade, the villages will again be categorized as drug-affected.

“This is a challenge not only for barangay officials and members of neighborhood watch groups but also for the residents of drug- cleared barangays, to maintain their barangay as such,” Esquivel said.
