Angara wife leads rites honoring 4 women in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY — Four women leaders in the city were recognized by the local government during the International Women’s Day celebration here on Friday.

This year’s awardees were Dinah Dumayas (financial literacy), Rosalia Ocyaden (education), Raquel Versoza (tourism) and Brenda Cariño (education).

Elvira “Tootsy” Echauz-Angara, wife of reelectionist Sen. Sonny Angara, led the event organized by the City Social Welfare and Development Office.

At least 500 women from different villages in the city, national line agencies, nongovernmental organizations and other civil society organizations attended the event held at President Fidel V. Ramos Gymnasium.

In her speech, Angara paid tribute to her mother, Nora Linda Mondoñedo.

“I was raised by a strong woman and many don’t know that it is here in Baguio where she found her strength,” Angara said.

She added: “I feel deeply humbled to be surrounded by so many accomplished, outstanding women who have done nothing but create positive changes in our world.” —INQUIRER NORTHERN LUZON
