Sara Duterte on opposition’s debate dare: ‘Kami nalang, 1 vs 8’

MANILA, Philippines — Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) campaign manager Sara Duterte-Carpio has turned the tables on the Otso Diretso team, challenging the opposition senatorial bets to a public debate.

“Kami na lang, Inday Sara vs 8,” the presidential daughter told INQUIRER.net in a text message.

The Davao City mayor made the dare after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) rejected Otso Diretso’s appeal for a debate.

The opposition candidates have been challenging the administration bets to a debate, saying that it “would benefit the voting public, who has all the right to know the platforms and positions on various issues” of Otso Diretso and HNP.

HNP, the regional party of Duterte-Carpio, is endorsing the candidacy of 13 pro-administration candidates.

Comelec thumbed down the Otso Diretso’s proposal on Friday, citing logistical issues and time constraints. /ee
