Woman and her pet dog killed in Ormoc road accident
ORMOC CITY, Philippines — A 65-year-old woman and her pet dog were killed after they were run over by van past noon on Tuesday in Barangay Concepcion in Ormoc City, Leyte.
The victim was identified as Visitacion Villarmino of Palompon town, Leyte. Her pet dog was a one-year-old Japanese Spitz.
According to Police Major Shevert Alvin Machete, City Traffic Management Office chief, the woman and her pet dog were heading home to Palompon aboard a motorcycle driven by her son, Ryan.
Ryan, however, abruptly hit the brakes when someone suddenly crossed the street. He lost balance and the motorcycle skidded and his passengers fell. But an Isuzu Forward wing van behind them failed to stop on time and run over the woman and her pet.
Ryan suffered minor wounds and was treated by the responding Ormoc Rescue Group.
The truck driver, Allan D. Borja, surrendered to the police and was brought to the police station pending the filing of charges. /ee
