MANILA, Philippines – Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada implied that the future is bright for Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, reminding people that he too served as city mayor before being elected president.
Estrada, who sponsored the sortie of Duterte-Carpio’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago senatorial slate in San Andres, Manila Wednesday said that the possibilities are limitless for the presidential daughter.
“So, malay natin, mayor ako noon, mayor si Inday Sara ngayon. Naging presidente ako, si Inday Sara kaya?” the former president said, drawing cheers from the crowd.
(Who knows, I was mayor before, Inday Sara is mayor today. I was elected president, how about Sara?)
“Who really knows what’s destiny in store for her? Sabi nga nga ng kanyang ama, ang ating mahal na pangulo President Rodrigo Duterte, ‘the political fate of our family is in Inday Sara’s hands’,” he added.
Estrada heaped praises on the Davao City mayor, who he said has done a lot for her constituents.
“She has all the assets and capability. She has done everything for the good of the people. You know any local official, or any leader will always think, it must always be for the greater good of the greatest number,” said Estrada.
Sara-Leni?
Recently, there were talks of a possible showdown between Duterte-Carpio and Vice President Leni Robredo in the 2022 presidential derby, since the two lady officials have been touring the country to campaign for their Senate candidates.
Robredo, who chairs the opposition Liberal Party (LP), is campaigning for the Otso Diretso candidates.
Both have denied the possibility, with Duterte-Carpio saying that she will decide by January 2021, claiming that aiming for the presidency is not an overnight decision. / gsg
