MANILA, Philippines—Malacañang on Wednesday confirmed the resignation of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Deputy Administrator Arnaldo “Arnell” Arevalo Ignacio for “personal reasons.”

“Mr. Ignacio has proven his competence in public service in his current position, as well as during his tenure at the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor). He has intimated his desire to pursue other endeavors,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.

“We wish him luck to a new path he will traverse. While the President [Rodrigo Duterte] has yet to formally accept Mr. Ignacio’s resignation, we recognize as well as thank him for his contributions to the Filipino people,” he added.

Ignacio, known for actively campaigning for Duterte during the 2016 Presidential polls, refused to mention the reason behind his resignation and told INQUIRER.net that he might arrange a press conference about his decision to step down on March 1.

Duterte named Ignacio as deputy executive director V of OWWA on Jan. 23, 2018.

In 2016, Ignacio was appointed as assistant vice president for the community relation and services department of Pagcor.
