MCWD raps BIR, gains finals seat in Arena 7 basketball
THE Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD) quintet advanced to the final round of the 2011 ARENA Sportsfest basketball tournament after routing undermanned Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR)-Cebu, 87-61, last Wednesday at the Capitol Parish gym.
MCWD jumped to a, 20-6 bulge in the opening period behind Lucero Gako and Ben Basergo but BIR responded with a, 24-15 run in the second to cut its deficit to just five points, 30-35 at halftime.
However, MCWD reclaimed its double-digit advantage in the third with a, 22-15 for a 57-45 leeway heading into the last 10 minutes of the contest where it completed the 26-point rout.
Lucero Gako and Melvin Paz led MCWD with 17 and 11 points, respectively while Yoly Meso and Leo Galvez paced BIR with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
MCWD will face DOH in the championship game after the latter beat Philhealth. BIR and Philhealth will battle for third place next week.
