3 dead in road crashes in Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan

DAGUPAN CITY — Three motorcycle riders were killed in separate road crashes in the provinces of Pangasinan and Ilocos Norte, police said.

Roland Madarila, 27, died while being taken to a hospital in Batac City in Ilocos Norte after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a cornfield at Barangay Bil-loca in Batac at 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday, said PO2 Mark Lawrence Yapit, Batac police investigator.

Yapit said the motorcycle driven by Hafid Malagar was speeding on the northbound lane of the Manila North Road when it slid off the road and fell on the cornfield as it negotiated a sharp curve.

Malagar was seriously injured and remained unconscious in a hospital, according to Yapit.

In Pangasinan, Melchor Inocencio, 22, and Mark Lawrence Cadaon, 21, died after their motorcycle sideswiped the metal railings along the road shoulder of the MNR at Barangay Sumabnit at 9:20 p.m. on Monday.

Inocencio and Cadaon were thrown off their motorcycle, according to Chief Insp. Rommel Bagsic, Binalonan police chief.

Bagsic said the victims died from head injuries because they were not wearing helmets. /lzb
