Malacañang condoles with family of Nestor Espenilla Jr.
MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has expressed its condolences to the family, loved ones and colleagues of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Gov. Nestor Espenilla Jr., who passed away on Saturday at the age of 60.

“As we express our condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and loved ones of Governor Espenilla, we express our gratitude to the man once in charge of disciplining banks for his complete devotion to his work and great service to the nation,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement Sunday.
The Palace official noted that Espenilla was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as BSP governor in 2017.
Espenilla served at the BSP for almost 40 years, Panelo added.
Article continues after this advertisement“Governor Espenilla, or Nesting to his BSP colleagues, slowly but steadily rose through the ladder before his appointment as deputy governor in 2005,” he said.
“This UP magna cum laude graduate was best remembered by the ordinary Juan de la Cruz for making financial services closer to Filipinos who – we are all aware – transact mostly using non-bank channels,” he added. /cbb
