MANILA,Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) lauded the new law on modifying rank classification of police officers, noting that it would boost productivity of the police.
“The PNP welcomes the approval and signing by the President into law the measure which modifies the rank classification in the PNP and standardizes how police officers are being called,” PNP Spokesperson Senior Supt. Bernard Banac said in a statement on Thursday.
“Definitely, the rank classification will contribute to more performance output and productivity from PNP uniformed personnel for having high morale as they will be called again the way they were addressed before,” he added.
President Rodrigo Duterte signed the law on Thursday which clarifies the command and responsibility in the PNP for effective and efficient supervision and control among its uniformed personnel.

PNP pointed out that the new law will be different from the present classification of rank among policemen which was considered difficult “to follow and understand.”
PNP also explained that the rank and responsibility of a police officer was clearer.
“The responsibility of the person holding the rank is clearly defined according to his or her authority in the organization. As such, the age old tradition of seniority and police customs on courtesy and privilege are further enhanced as fundamental doctrine,” Banac said.
Under the new law, the new classification in the PNP will be the following:
-Police General
-Police Lieutenant General
-Police Major General
-Police Brigadier General Police Colonel
-Police Lieutenant Colonel
-Police Major
-Police Captain
-Police Lieutenant
-Police Executive Master Sergeant
-Police Chief Master Sergeant
-Police Senior Master Sergeant
-Police Master Sergeant
-Police Staff Sergeant
-Police Corporal
-Patrolman/Patrolwoman
