MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) condemned the killing of an anti-drug agent in Camarines Sur saying that it is an “attempt to cripple” a campaign aimed at improving the lives of Filipinos by combating illegal drugs.
The CHR’s statement came following the killing of a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agent in Camarines Sur, who was earlier reported missing and was found dead after he met with a supposed informant.

“While there are still questions on its means, in principle, CHR supports the goal of the government’s anti-drug campaign geared towards improving the lives of many Filipinos by curbing illegal sale and use of drugs in the country,” CHR Spokesperson Atty. Jacqueline de Guia said in a statement.
“Hence, any attack on officers of the law is an attempt to cripple this goal. But equally important is on how this violation has resulted to the curtailment of the right to life, which, more often than not, has been the cost of this anti-drug drive,” she added.
The commission also said that its office in Region V will be launching an investigation on the case “in the interest of helping serve justice for the said death.” /jpv
