Pacquiao: I have no plans to run for higher office but…

MANILA, Philippines — He has no plans of running for higher office but neophyte Senator Manny Pacquiao said he is thinking or would think about it.

Pacquiao said this when asked in an interview over ABS-CBN News Channel’s “Headstart’ on Wednesday about his previous statement that he was open to run for the presidency in 2022.

“What I said is, I don’t have any plan to run for  a higher office or mag iisip ako. I’m thinking about it,” he said.

“Masaya ako bilang senador, gampanan yung trabaho ko, nagbibigay ako ng karangalan sa ating bansa.. masaya na ako dyan na gampanan ko yung trabaho ko. Yun ang nasa puso ko.”

But  when pressed what would convince him to run either for president or vice president in 2022, Pacquiao  invoked the name of God.

“Alam mo kung walang guidance ng Panginoon, who I am to make a decision na sarili ko lang?”

“Kung ganun, hindi rin ako magpro-prosper and then useless din yung mga plano ko kung wala yung Panginoon,” the senator said.

He pointed out that he is now in the Senate not because he had planned for it but rather because it was God’s will for him.

Earlier, President Rodrigo Duterte’s daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, earlier expressed her openness to run for the highest post in 2022.

But the mayor said she would wait until January 2021 to decide.   /muf
