Arroyo on SC nod on martial law extension: ‘It’s good, we’re very happy’

MANILA, Philippines — A visibly elated House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo lauded on Tuesday the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the extension of martial law in Mindanao until Dec. 31, 2019.

“Oh, it’s good, we’re very happy because we voted to extend it,” the Pampanga 2nd District congresswoman told reporters after emerging from a Department of Public Works and Highways briefing at the House premises where Passi, Iloilo’s flood-control system masterplan and other issues on its flood-control system were tackled.

Earlier in the day, the High Tribunal voted 9-4 to uphold Congress’ third extension of martial law in the southern region, thereby junking the four petitions that challenged the constitutionality of the extension.
