CAMARINES SUR, Philippines— Former Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas on Wednesday brushed off speculations that the Otso Diretso slate is disunited after he mounted a kick off campaign separate from his seven colleagues.

The former presidential aspirant said insinuations that he was veering away from the Otso Diretso were just mere “fake news.”

“Ayokong magrespond sa mga spekulasyon dahil ito ay mga hinahain ng mga naghahasik ng intriga ng fake news at ng walang katotohanan,” Roxas told reporters upon arriving at the tomb of the Jesse Robredo at the Eternal Gardens Memorial Park in Naga City.

When pressed on his decision to begin his senatorial campaign away from his fellow Otso Diretso candidates, Roxas asked: “Is that a disqualifying action? Ano’ng isyu?”

“My media bureau announced that I will be starting my campaign in my hometown… May kanya-kanyang  priority may kanya-kanyang schedule,” he added.

He also insisted that he only did his tradition to start his campaign in his hometown in Capiz.

Roxas said he already invited his teammates to Capiz in January.

“In fact nobody’s invited me in their hometown but I invited them,” he added. /jpv
