MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) accepts the decision of the court to allow suspended Daraga, Albay Mayor Carlwyn Baldo to post bail for his temporary liberty.

The Legazpi City Regional Trial Court Branch 10 granted the request of Baldo’s camp to post bail amounting to P3 million or a surety or property bond of P4 million, after the provincial prosecutors failed to file in court cases of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and illegal possession of an explosive against him.

“As the premier law enforcement agency, the PNP bows to the majesty of the law and accepts the court decision allowing Daraga Mayor Carlwyn Baldo to post bail,” PNP spokesperson Senior Supt. Bernard Banac said in a text message.

Baldo, the alleged brains behind the murder of Ako Bicol Rep. Rodel Batocabe and his police escort SPO2 Orlando Diaz in December 2018, was arrested last January after police found several firearms and ammunition in a raid in the compound of his residence.

He was rushed to the hospital after complaining of asthma inside his detention cell at the night of his arrest. He remained there almost two weeks before he was transferred again to jail.

“We shall monitor his movements from time to time and account for his presence during court hearings,” Banac said. /jpv
