Palace-SC rift: President Aquino still open to mediation

/ 05:49 AM December 10, 2011

Malacañang on Friday said President Benigno Aquino III remains open to mediation efforts to bring the executive branch and the Supreme Court to a better understanding of each other’s positions.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte made the remarks in reaction to the views of some Liberal Party (LP) senators indicating that there appears to be no room compromise between the executive and the judiciary.

Asked whether the President Aquino would change his favorable response to a proposal by church leaders to mediate between Malacañang and the Supreme Court, Valte said, “I’m not quite sure on how it will go down the road.”

“But from what I understand the President is open to mediation,” Valte said in a news briefing in Malacañang on Friday.

Sen. Franklin Drilon, the LP vice chairman, said it would be difficult to find a middle ground between the two side.
