Poe: Fake news about me?  I’ll answer them

MANILA, Philippines — Reelectionist Senator Grace Poe said Tuesday she has one way to deal with fake news about her: Answer them.

“Sa tingin ko magiging malaki ang role ng mainstream media ngayon para ayusin at ibigay ang tamang storya,” Poe, chair of the Senate committee on public information and mass media, told reporters during a school feeding program in Payatas, Quezon City.

“Pero ako ang balak ko ganito, kung meron mang kwento tungkol sakin na hindi totoo, kahit online, sasagutin ko ito para mas madaling makuha ng ating kababayan kaagad ang tamang impormasyon,” she said.

Poe, who kicked off her campaign with a feeding program for 800 kids from the Payatas Elementary School, said she also believes the public are now being cautious with the news they read online.

“Alam mo kung meron man tayong natutunan nung 2016, ‘yan ang paglaganap ng mga fake news,” she said.

“So ako malaki ang tiwala sa ating mga kababayan ngayon na medyo nag-iingat na rin sila sa mga balitang nakikita nila,” she added.

The senator, a consistent front-runner in recent pre-election surveys, is seeking reelection in the upcoming midterm polls as an independent candidate.
