DID YOU KNOW: 1st week of February is Lupus Advocacy Week
Lupus Advocacy Week is observed every first week of February by virtue of Proclamation No. 1435 signed on Dec. 17, 2007, by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can involve several organ systems and become a chronic complicated and disabling disease.
Approximately 75 percent of patients suffering from lupus will have abnormalities in the structure and function of one or more vital organs such as the heart, lungs, kidney and brain.
The proclamation highlights the need to pursue different strategies to prevent, treat and provide chronic care for individuals with lupus. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
