Woman arrested for pouring water on sleeping baby’s face

A woman in South Carolina was arrested Wednesday, Jan. 30, after pouring water on her sleeping baby’s face.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said they arrested 33-year-old Caitlin Alyse Hardy after she poured the water on her 9-month-old daughter last Saturday, Jan. 26, and streamed the act on Facebook, as reported by WIS News 10.

The report cited that a number of concerned people contacted the sheriff’s office after they had seen some of the images and a video that circulated on the social media site.

Authorities said that Hardy caused “ill-treatment, unnecessary pain and suffering, and/or deprivation of necessary sustenance upon a female minor child” on doing the act.

The sheriff’s office added that they have contacted the Sumter County Department of Social Services for a thorough investigation be conducted on the matter.

At the time of the incident, authorities found that besides the infant, three other children resided in the suspect’s home. The sheriff’s office also noted that the investigation will be for “the benefit and safety of all children in this home.”
