4 more establishments ordered closed for polluting Manila Bay

MANILA, Philippines – Four more commercial establishments were shut down for dumping wastewater into the Manila Bay, Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu announced on Thursday.

Cimatu said the cease and desist order (CDO) was issued by the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) after it was established that the firms did not conform with the Effluent Standards for Class ‘SB’ waters.

The following establishments were ordered to shut down their water sources and wastewater discharging facilities:

1.) Billion Building or the Philippine Billion Real Estate Development Corporation ( Roxas Blvd, Pasay City)

Cimatu said the LLDA conducted recent saturation activities in the Manila Bay area as well as laboratory analysis of the wastewater sample which led them to find these establishments non-compliant with environmental regulations.

Cimatu said these establishments have to cease operations until the violations are addressed.

“They have to stop operations until na ma-correct yung kanilang violations,” Cimatu told reporters in an interview.

He said that the DENR would implement the closure by suspending their Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) and their building permits.

Cimatu said that this is just the second round of issuing CDOs for establishments found to be non-compliant with environmental regulations.

The government has previously issued CDOs on three restaurants for polluting Manila Bay.

The LLDA also issued ex-parte orders and notices of violation against the following establishments:

2.) Smart Land Resources (M. Adriatico St. Malate, Manila)

3.) Malate Bayview Mansion (M. Adriatico St. Malate, Manila)

1.) Sogo Hotel – Quirino (Madre Ignacia St. Malate, Manila)

2.) Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) (Roxas Blvd. Pasay City)

3.) Peak Motors Phils. Inc. (Edsa corner Roxas Blvd. Pasay, City)

4.) Makchang Korean Restaurant (Adriatico St. Malate, Manila)

5.) 2Blue Realty Corporation (Madre Ignacia St. Malate, Manila)

6.) Cebuana Lhuillier Building (E. Rodriguez St. corner Roxas Blvd. Pasay City)

7.) Robinsons Land Corporation (Robinsons Place Manila) (Pedro Gil corner Adriatico Streets, Ermita, Manila)

8.) Rizal Park Hotel (South Drive TM Kalaw, Ermita, Manila)

Likewise, Summit Ice Inc. was also issued a notice of violation for violations of Republic Act No. 4850 (i.e. failure to secure LLDA clearance and/or Discharge Permit to the Authority, along with Billion Building or the Philippine Billion Real Estate Development Corporation, Smart Land Resources, Malate Bayview Mansion, Makchang Korean Restaurant, 2Blue Realty Corporation, Cebuana Lhuillier Building.  / gsg
