4 die as bus slams into rear of truck on SCTEx

CONCEPCION, Tarlac – Four people were killed while 30 more were hurt when a tourist bus rear-ended an 18-wheeler truck along the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx) in Barangay Santiago here on Thursday morning.

Authorities said the bus, which was carrying mostly government employees from Cavite, slammed into the rear of the cargo truck at about 5:20 a.m.

Melvin Viloria, the supervisor of SCTEx traffic control room, said the accident happened in front of PTT gas station.

Police said all of the other passengers of the north-bound bus sustained injuries and were brought to different hospitals.

An earlier report said about 50 bus passengers were hurt in the collision.

Authorities have yet to release identities of the fatalities or the injured passengers. /cbb
