Portions of Roxas Blvd to be closed for SAF 44 commemoration bike ride
MANILA, Philippines – Parts of Roxas Boulevard will be closed to traffic on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019 for the “PNP SAF 44 Commemoration Ride” a bicycle ride to honor the fallen 44 Special Action Force (SAF) commandos who were killed during a police operation in Mamasapano, Maguindanao in 2015.
The “SAF 44 Commemoration Ride” was started in 2017 by the Philippine National Police (PNP) Police Community Relations Group (PCRG) in partnership with the National Bicycle Organization. The bicycle ride starts at Rizal Park’s Kilometer Zero and ends at the SAF 44 monument inside the Philippine National Police Academy in Silang, Cavite.
In an advisory, the Manila Police Department’s (MPD) Traffic Enforcement Unit said the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard from Katigbak Drive up to P. Ocampo, Manila will be closed from 3 a.m. onwards.
However, the MPD said the opening and closures of the affected portions of Roxas Boulevard will still depend on the traffic situation in the area on Sunday.
Motorists are advised by the MPD to be guided by the rerouting plan:
-All vehicles coming from Bonifacio Drive intending to utilize the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard, shall turn left to P. Burgos Avenue.
Article continues after this advertisement-All vehicles coming from Jones, McArthur, or Quezon bridges intending to utilize the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard, shall go straight to Taft Avenue.
Article continues after this advertisement-All vehicles traveling westbound lane of P. Burgos Avenue, shall turn right to Bonifacio Drive or make a u-turn to the eastbound lane of P. Burgos Avenue.
-All vehicles traveling westbound lane of TM Kalaw St. going to Roxas Boulevard shall turn left to MH del Pilar St.
-All vehicles traveling westbound lane of UN Avenue going to Roxas Boulevard, shall turn left to MH del Pilar St., or utilize Roxas Boulevard service road.
-All vehicles traveling westbound lane of Pres. Quirino Avenue intending to utilize the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard shall turn left to Adriatico St.
-All vehicles on the westbound lane of P. Ocampo St. intending to utilize the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard shall turn left to FB Harrison.
-All vehicles going to and from Manila Ocean Park or the H20 Hotel and Manila Hotel shall utilize Katigbak Drive as access road. /muf
