UP Oblation Run on Feb. 8 to focus on press freedom

MANILA, Philippines – The annual Oblation Run at the University of the Philippines- Diliman will be staged on February 8 this year and will pay tribute to the crusade for press freedom.

Members of the Alpha Phi Omega (APO), in a social media post, said the annual ritual also marks the 66th anniversary of the fraternity.

“Catch the 2019 Oblation Run on February 8, Friday, and join us as we celebrate the 66th anniversary of our fraternity’s founding in UP’s flagship campus,” the post read.

In the video accompanying the Facebook post, several clips of President Rodrigo Duterte talking about press freedom and photos of journalists such as Maria Ressa and Pia Rañada of Rappler and Jamela Salindongan of Al Jazeera are shown.

The annual tradition is usually held in December but last year, the APO moved this year’s ritual to February./gsg
