Albay orders evacuations, class suspensions ahead of ‘Amang’

LEGAZPI CITY — The Albay government has ordered pre-emptive evacuations and suspensions of classes for Monday (January 21) due to expected heavy rainfall brought by Tropical Depression “Amang.”

Cedric Daep, head of the Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office, said families in all landslide and flood prone areas in the province would be evacuated.

On Saturday, Mayor Cherilie Sampal of Polangui town ordered the pre-emptive evacuation of families living along river banks and low-lying areas.

On Sunday morning, Sampal also ordered early dismissal of classes in college.

Mayor Wilfredo Maronilla of Libon town ordered mandatory pre-emptive evacuation of families living in houses made with light materials and vulnerable to landslide and flooding. /cbb
