PARANG, Maguindanao – A man and his son were killed in an ambush Saturday morning in Mamasapano, Maguindanao, the second ambush in the province in the past 24 hours, police said.
In a spot report sent to Chief Supt. Graciano Mijares, police director in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindana, the Mamasapano town police said Alimudin Bansuan, 41, and his son Gaga, 11, who both lived in Barangay Rosary Heights 3, Cotabato City, were ambushed at 10:45 a.m. on a concrete village road in Barangay Dabenayan, Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
Two men riding on motorbike shot Bansuan, who was driving the white sedan, and hit his son, who was seated in front. Both died on the spot, police said.
Police and the victim’s wife said Bansuan went to Barangay Libutan to deliver the remains of a dead man to his relatives.
They were on their way home when ambushed.
The victim’s wife said her husband had no known enemies and the family could not think of any reason why he was murdered.
It was the second ambush in Maguindanao since Friday night. At 10 p.m. on Friday, two men were killed in an ambush by still unidentified gunmen in Barangay Macaguiling, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao.
Another man survived and is now recuperating in a government hospital in Cotabato City.
The two separate ambuscades came despite the deployment of more government troops in Maguindanao ahead of Monday’s plebiscite on the Bangsamoro Organic Law.
